World’s Largest Renewable Energy Park to Rise in Khavda by 2029

A study by Yale E360, referenced by Grist, suggests that other developing nations aiming for quick development without adding to their carbon footprints should learn from India’s incredible solar energy transformation. The white salt deserts of Gujarat’s Rann of Kutch are quickly becoming one of the largest renewable energy hubs in the world thanks to a massive array of solar panels.

Khavda Solar Park, which stretches over around 280 square miles close to the border between Pakistan and India, is slated to surpass all others as the largest solar power project in the world by the year 2029. The installed solar capacity in India surpassed 150 gigawatts in March 2026, with a growth rate of about 40% per year.

In order to keep up with its increasing energy demand and reduce its dependency on fossil fuels, India is projected to increase its capacity by doubling it once more by 2030.

According to experts in the energy sector, India has the potential to lead the way in solar power-powered industrialisation, displacing coal as the primary energy source. India is veering away from the traditional economic models of China and the West, which relied heavily on fossil fuels, claims Kingsmill Bond, an energy analyst at the UK think tank Ember.

Bond made the comment, “China built on coal; India is building on sun,” and went on to say that other developing nations looking to grow quickly without drastically increasing their carbon emissions may learn from India’s example.
