In a meeting held in New Delhi on Monday, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari assessed the condition and upkeep of 8,512 km of Andhra Pradesh’s National Highways and 3,748 km of West Bengal’s National Highway projects using feedback received via social media and the media.
Senior officials from MoRTH, NHAI, and NHIDCL, as well as the project contractors, were present at the review meeting, which was also attended by Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra.
Gadkari stressed the need of speeding up on-ground execution, improving ride quality, and ensuring smooth connectivity during the review. He also recommended strengthening quality monitoring procedures and using current building practices. In order to build sustainable and efficient roadways that encourage connection, economic development, and commuter convenience, he also emphasised the implementation of cutting-edge technology.
To reduce disruptions and ensure commuter safety, the Minister urged officials to execute comprehensive monsoon readiness measures. These measures include adequate drainage management, slope protection works, and quick-response systems. The following were covered in depth: road signage, RE walls, safety audits, precast construction, expansion joints, logical project termini, material compliance, black spot rectification, plantation and landscaping, and precast construction.
It is imperative that all parties involved adhere to the quality standards that have been mandated and that remedial procedures are implemented promptly, as recommended by Gadkari.
