In line with the consistent focus on the welfare of peripheral villages of Neyveli and to promote participation and identifying talent under the Central Government’s schemes like Khelo India, NLC India Ltd, has initiated a remarkable step to engage and empower rural youth through sports.
NLC India has organized a month long Inter-Village Sports Tournament for the youth belonging to peripheral villages of Neyveli.
The inaugural ceremony of the tournament was held on 29th March 2025 at the Bharathi Stadium, Neyveli where Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, officially flagged off the event with inspiring words of encouragement in the presence of Functional Directors and senior officials of NLC India Ltd,
More than 2,100 young athletes from nearly 65 nearby villages enthusiastically registered to participate in the grand sports fest. The tournament featured games like Cricket, Volleyball, Kabaddi for men and Throwball for women.
A total of 65 cricket teams, 54 volleyball teams, 37 kabaddi teams, and 6 throwball teams registered, resulting in an impressive 158 matches being conducted in a structured format—starting with knockout rounds and proceeding to Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals.
The sports festival culminated in a vibrant valedictory function held today, on 29th April 2025, at the Bharathi Stadium. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, Suresh Chandra Suman, Director (Mines) & (P&P) Addl. Charge, Samir Swarup, Director (HR), Dr.Prasanna Kumar Acharya, Director (Finance), Executive Directors and Senior Officials of NLCIL witnessed the Kabaddi finals and handed over prizes to the winners, acknowledging their talent and sportsmanship.
Speaking at the event, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLCIL, emphasized the company’s continuous commitment to supporting sports and youth development. He congratulated all participants and assured that such tournaments would be conducted in the coming years with even greater grandeur.
This mega event was meticulously organized over the past month and successfully conducted by NLC India’s Sports Department, with active participation from NLC employees, officers, and members of the local community.
