CERT-In Flags Surge in AI-Driven Cyberattacks Across Digital Ecosystem

CERT-In, an Indian cyber security body, has issued a warning about how the proliferation of AI is changing the nature of cybersecurity around the world. This is because AI allows cybercriminals to launch more sophisticated, time-sensitive attacks.

According to CERT-In’s most recent cybersecurity plan, threat actors are taking advantage of advanced technologies like generative AI, LLMs, autonomous agents, and automation platforms backed by AI to bolster their cyber operations.

The intelligence community has discovered that cybercriminals are utilising artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to develop adaptive malware that can evade traditional security measures, automate vulnerability finding, construct highly targeted phishing campaigns, and speed up reconnaissance.

According to CERT-In, the time it takes to find vulnerabilities in digital ecosystems, such as exposed services, unprotected APIs, and compromised digital identities, has been significantly cut down by AI-enabled cyber exploitation.

“The potential impact of AI-enabled cyber threats continues to increase across sectors as organisations become increasingly dependent on interconnected digital infrastructure, cloud ecosystems, software supply chains, operational technologies, and AI-enabled platforms,” the agency stated in its blueprint.
