PM Jan Dhan Yojana Marks 12-Year Milestone

The PM Jan Dhan Yojana has completed 12 years of driving financial inclusion across India. Launched on August 28, 2014, the flagship initiative has now expanded to over 59 crore accounts. Total deposits under the PM Jan Dhan Yojana exceed Rs 3.17 lakh crore, with an average account balance of Rs 5,356. This milestone highlights a massive expansion in baseline banking access for underserved citizens nationwide.

PM Jan Dhan Yojana Drives Rural and Gender Parity

Demographic distribution underlines the targeted impact of the PM Jan Dhan Yojana. Rural and semi-urban regions account for 78 per cent of all active accounts, while women own approximately 56 per cent. Additionally, public and private sector banks have issued more than 41 crore RuPay debit cards to account holders. This infrastructure equips low-income communities with direct entry into formal financial markets.

PM Jan Dhan Yojana Strengthens National Banking Metrics

The PM Jan Dhan Yojana serves as the core operational foundation of the Jan-Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile (JAM) trinity. This framework ensures diversion-proof execution of Direct Benefit Transfer payments. Driven by these structural reforms, India’s Financial Inclusion Index rose from 53.9 in 2018 to 67 in 2026. This upward trend reflects expanding national access to formal credit, insurance products, digital payments, and savings mechanisms.
