Vikram-1 Launch Today: PM Modi Cheers Skyroot Ahead of India’s First Private Orbital Mission

The Vikram-1 Launch, India’s first privately built orbital rocket, is about to be launched by Skyroot Aerospace, marking a watershed event in the country’s space program. Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his congratulations to the crew in the days leading up to the mission and hailed the launch as a watershed moment in the development of India’s private space sector. The Prime Minister praised the Vikram-1 Launch, writing that it exemplifies the youthful initiative, creativity, and talent in India in a social media post. He said the mission was a reflection of how well the space sector reforms were working to boost India’s standing in the international space economy and provide new opportunities for entrepreneurs.

Rapid and on-demand satellite launch services are now available with the development of the four-stage Vikram-1 Launch vehicle. The rocket, which will bear the name of India’s space programme’s founder, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, will hopefully show that private sector Indian companies can create orbital launch systems that rival the best in the world.

Mission Aagaman, the second space mission by Skyroot Aerospace following the successful Vikram-S suborbital flight in 2022, is set to take off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR), Sriharikota. The launch is anticipated to bring about fresh prospects for the commercial satellite launch business in India.

Along with handwritten comments from Skyroot staff, investors, lawmakers, and fans, Vikram-1 will carry Prime Minister Modi’s handwritten “Vande Mataram” postcard, adding a symbolic element to the mission. According to the business, these mementos stand for the hopes and dreams of everyone involved in India’s growing private space economy.

With the Vikram-1 Launch in the bag, India will solidify its position as a leading center for commercial space innovation, and the country’s burgeoning space sector will attract even more engagement from startups.
