They exchanged views on the regional situation and its impact on international commerce. Maritime security and the safety of seafarers remained important areas of discussion.
Modi Putin Meeting Reviews Bilateral Ties
During the Modi Putin meeting, the two leaders reviewed progress in India-Russia bilateral cooperation. Discussions covered defence, trade, energy, space, mobility and people-to-people ties.
They also welcomed the outcome of the 27th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Cultural matters held in Moscow on August 24.

The leaders also discussed major geopolitical developments. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s position that dialogue and diplomacy are essential for resolving conflicts.
Modi reaffirmed India’s support for efforts aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine. He stressed the importance of moving towards peaceful solutions to prolonged conflicts.
India-Russia Partnership Remains a Priority
The Modi Putin meeting also reaffirmed the importance of the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. Both leaders agreed to remain closely engaged on bilateral and multilateral issues.
The discussions also covered cooperation through platforms such as BRICS, which India is chairing in 2026.
Modi and Putin to Meet Again in India
Prime Minister Modi said he looked forward to welcoming President Putin to India for the 18th BRICS Summit scheduled for September 12-13, 2026.
Following their talks, Modi and Putin travelled together to the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games at Bishkek Arena. The interaction highlighted the continuing engagement between the two leaders.
