PM Modi Dedicates 75 Amrit Bharat Stations Across 20 States, Jalandhar Cantt Among Highlights

Another significant milestone in the development of Indian Railways will be marked when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates 75 renovated railway stations across 20 states under the flagship Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). These stations, which cost a total of roughly Rs 1,570 crore to develop, are an example of the government’s “Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi” initiative to build first-rate transport hubs while also protecting India’s illustrious cultural and architectural legacy.

Redeveloped at a cost of Rs 125 crore, the 110-year-old Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station in Punjab is one of the notable stations being opened. Commuters can now enjoy an airport-like travel experience without sacrificing the station’s historic character thanks to its renovated double-height air concourse, modern steel platform roofing, slip-resistant flooring, energy-efficient LED lighting, wider Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), improved parking facilities, and easier passenger circulation.

By combining regional architectural traditions with modern amenities, the rehabilitation effort has also changed stations like Modi Nagar (Delhi NCR), Hi-Tech City (Hyderabad), Shamli, Kalka, Balaghat Junction, Majbat, Baramati, Rayanpadu, and Sambalpur. Better platform shelters, Divyangjan-friendly amenities, contemporary restrooms, dedicated parking places, escalators, executive lounges, waiting halls, digital passenger information systems, and lifts all contribute to an upgraded infrastructure that greatly improves accessibility and passenger comfort.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which will be unveiled in December 2022, is centred on the master planning of stations over the long term, interconnection of various modes of transport, and integration with the existing urban infrastructure. By the middle of 2026, 122 of the more than 1,340 railway stations planned for renovation had already been finished. One of the world’s largest railway station redevelopment undertakings, the ambitious programme involves an investment of approximately Rs 71,000 crore.

The One Station One Product (OSOP) program is another way the effort supports local culture; it provides venues for the display of area goods and arts and crafts, which in turn boosts tourism and the economy. To guarantee equitable and ecologically responsible railway growth, Divyangjan accessibility, sustainability, and energy-efficient infrastructure have been given special attention.

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Vande Bharat Express trains, Dedicated Freight Corridors and quick electrification are just a few of the projects that Prime Minister Modi has spearheaded to modernise India’s rail network. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to updating India’s transport network in February 2024 by laying the foundation stone for 554 railway stations; in May 2025, he inaugurated 103 renovated stations spread across 18 states.

In an effort to modernise, open up, and culturally enrich Indian railway stations, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is reshaping their destiny as public spaces. The project is enhancing passenger experience, regional economies, and India’s transport network for the future by redeveloping over 1,340 stations.
