Rubio Invites PM Modi to White House, Stresses India-US Energy Partnership

During his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted the importance of increased energy and strategic cooperation between the two nations.

According to the US State Department, Rubio stated that the US will not stand by and watch as Iran attempts to control the global energy market. He also brought attention to the fact that India’s energy demands may be better met by sourcing some of their energy from the US.

While evaluating progress under the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, the two leaders reviewed the situation in the Middle East, commerce, defence, and emerging technology. On Trump’s behalf, Rubio extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House. The US State Department announced that the Prime Minister and Secretary of State had reached an agreement to enhance defence and trade relations as well as boost cooperation on important and developing technology.

India and the United States will keep working closely for world peace and security, Prime Minister Modi said after the meeting, which he called productive.

Reiterating India’s support for conversation and diplomacy as means to settle regional disputes, Modi spoke, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Rubio is currently in India for four days before the upcoming Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which will be held in New Delhi on May 26. Ministers from Japan and Australia will also be in attendance. With this visit, India-US ties would be further strengthened, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
