REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) has handed over two power transmission project Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) to the successful bidders under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process.
The handovers took place on September 23, 2026. Barmer HVDC Power Transmission Limited was handed over to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL). Sakoli Power Transmission Limited was handed over to Ashoka Buildcon Limited.
RECPDCL is a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, under the Ministry of Power. It acted as the Bid Process Coordinator for both projects.
Both projects will be implemented under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model. The SPVs were handed over by Rajkumar Sonkar, HoD (CS), RECPDCL, in the presence of senior officials from the participating organisations and Central Transmission Utility of India Limited.
Hand Over 6 GW Barmer HVDC Project
PGCIL emerged as the successful bidder for the inter-state project titled “Evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Ph-IV (Part-5: 6 GW) [Barmer Complex] Barmer-II: 6 GW (Solar) (LCC Configuration)”.
The project will establish 6,000 MW ±800 kV HVDC terminal stations at Barmer-II and South Kalamb. It also includes a ±800 kV HVDC bipole transmission line spanning approximately 973.41 km between the two locations.
The project will include two synchronous condenser units at the 400 kV level of Barmer-II Power Station. Associated transmission infrastructure will also be developed.
The project has an implementation schedule of 54 months. It will support the evacuation and transmission of renewable power from the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone.
RECPDCL Transfers Sakoli Transmission SPV
Ashoka Buildcon Limited emerged as the successful bidder for the Maharashtra intra-state project titled “Establishment of 400/220/132 kV AIS Sakoli (District Bhandara)”.
The project includes a new 400/220/132 kV AIS Sakoli substation. It will have two 500 MVA, 400/220 kV interconnecting transformers and two 315 MVA, 400/132 kV interconnecting transformers.
The project also includes 220 kV and 132 kV double-circuit transmission lines. These will connect Sakoli with Bhandara, Deori and Moragaon Arjuni.
The Sakoli project has an implementation schedule of 24 months.
The handover of the two SPVs enables the successful bidders to move ahead with project implementation. The projects will support renewable power evacuation in Rajasthan and strengthen the transmission network in Maharashtra.
