Power Finance Corporation (PFC), in partnership with the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), organised a workshop on cybersecurity frameworks for the power distribution sector in New Delhi. The workshop was conducted under the Advanced Digital Utility Manager (DUM) Course and brought together more than 85 participants from 28 Distribution Companies (DISCOMs).
The programme focused on strengthening cyber resilience across India’s power distribution sector by linking cybersecurity compliance with practical operational resilience.
PFC Workshop Focuses on Cyber Risks and OT Security
The PFC workshop covered real-world cyber risks, threat actors and global cybersecurity benchmarks, along with operational technology (OT) security roadmaps for modern utilities. Participants also discussed security considerations for smart metering networks and UK cybersecurity best practices.
The sessions included Red-Team and Blue-Team simulations as well as tabletop cybersecurity exercises, giving DISCOM representatives practical exposure to cyber risks and response approaches.
PFC, UK FCDO Partnership Supports Digital Utility Security
Organised under the Advanced DUM Course, the PFC programme brought together representatives from 28 DISCOMs to examine global practices and practical approaches to securing modern electricity distribution infrastructure.
The workshop highlighted the need to bridge the gap between regulatory compliance and operational resilience as power distribution networks become increasingly digital and interconnected.
Strengthening Cybersecurity in Grid Modernisation
As utilities adopt technologies such as smart metering and advanced digital systems, cybersecurity is becoming an important part of grid modernisation. The workshop also addressed the protection of Critical Information Infrastructure and the need for stronger security frameworks across digitally enabled power networks.
The programme provided DISCOM participants with insights into cybersecurity benchmarks, OT security, smart-metering networks and practical cyber-response exercises aimed at strengthening resilience in the power distribution sector.
