Nagpur Gets New Electric Bus Service as WCL and NMC Promote Sustainable Public Transport

The collaborative inauguration of an electric bus service for employees in Nagpur is a major step towards sustainable mobility and lowering carbon emissions. It is a cooperative effort between Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Interactions between WCL Indora Colony and WCL Headquarters are part of a larger effort to promote public transit, which is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goals of reducing pollution and saving money.

A new electric bus service for employees has been introduced by Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). This is part of a combined initiative to promote sustainable mobility and public transport in Nagpur.

The electric bus service will run between WCL Indora Colony and WCL Headquarters, giving workers a greener way to get to work while also helping to alleviate traffic congestion in cities and protecting the environment.

This programme is in keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for more people to use the nation’s public transit system. Project goals include cutting down on fuel use and carbon emissions by getting workers to use public transit more instead of their own cars.

Public transportation’s role in reaching sustainable development targets was highlighted by WCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande, who spoke at the event. He made the case that more people using public transit would have positive effects on society and the environment in the long run.

Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande, WCL’s chief medical director, emphasised the company’s dedication to future ecologically friendly initiatives and advised staff to make the most of the newly established service.

As part of the ceremonial launch of the electric bus service, senior officials from WCL, Maha Metro, and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation were present, including WCL General Manager (Mining/PR) Shri S. R. Gabale, Maha Metro Joint General Manager Shri Mahesh Moroney, and NMC Senior Operations Manager Shri Purushottam Nimsarkar.

Officials emphasised that the service is being implemented to help broader environmental aims while also providing an additional benefit to employees. Efforts are also being made to get more employees involved with the program so that public transit can be used more frequently.

In order to aid India’s shift toward sustainable transport systems, the launch underscores the increasing emphasis on clean mobility solutions by public sector firms and urban local bodies.
