The Dutch government released a statement announcing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will spend his two-day visit to the Netherlands this week working to improve bilateral relations and formalise a strategic partnership between the two nations.
Prime Minister Modi will be received by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima at the Huis ten Bosch Palace during their visit on May 16. Attendees at the luncheon honouring the Indian prime minister will include high-ranking government officials, Dutch business CEOs, and cultural, academic, and artistic leaders.
At the Catshuis, Prime Minister Modi will meet with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten for bilateral talks and a CEO roundtable discussion on economic cooperation. Sjoerd Wiemer Sjoerdsma, the Dutch minister of foreign trade and development, will launch the conversation, which will include prominent Dutch business players.
A formal cooperation agreement will be signed in the presence of both leaders, marking a key step in advancing the strategic partnership between India and the Netherlands.
The two Prime Ministers will also hold delegation-level talks and an informal dinner, covering a wide range of issues including security cooperation, emerging technologies, water management, global economic challenges, and ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia and Ukraine.
Several agreements will be exchanged during the visit, which will end on May 17, as part of the larger framework of strategic partnerships.
The Indian government’s foreign affairs ministry said that the visit would further strengthen already robust ties between the two countries in the areas of water management, green hydrogen, innovation, semiconductors, and military.
With a total of USD 55.6 billion in FDI and bilateral trade valued at USD 27.8 billion in 2024-25, the Netherlands ranks as India’s fourth-largest investor, solidifying its position as a crucial European partner for India.
The prime minister will be returning to the Netherlands for a second official visit; his first was in 2017
