Critical Mineral Auction Drive Reaches Patna with Bihar CM’s Backing

MECL hosted a Critical Mineral Auction roadshow in Patna today. Shri Indra Dev Narayan, Chairman & Managing Director of Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL), welcomed Bihar Chief Minister Shri Samrat Choudhary at the event. The programme marked the 8th tranche of critical and strategic mineral block auctions. The Ministry of Mines, Government of India, organised the roadshow. NMEDT held a parallel workshop alongside it. The event took place at Hotel Maurya, Patna, on 17 August 2026.

MECL Leadership Welcomes Bihar CM

MECL CMD Indra Dev Narayan led the welcome for the Bihar Chief Minister. His presence signalled the state’s growing role in India’s mineral exploration push. Bihar holds notable mineral potential. The roadshow gave state leaders a direct view of upcoming investment opportunities. It also strengthened ties between MECL and the state government. The Ministry of Mines organised the event, with an NMEDT workshop running alongside it.

8th Tranche Offers 20 Mineral Blocks

The 8th tranche covers 20 mineral blocks. Three are mining leases. Seventeen are composite licence blocks. The blocks contain graphite, rare earth elements, rare metals, vanadium, gallium and titanium. They also include molybdenum, tungsten, potash, phosphorite and glauconite. These minerals matter for clean energy and advanced technology. India aims to reduce import dependence through domestic supply.

These strategic minerals span sectors from batteries to defence manufacturing. Investors get early access to blocks that will shape India’s supply chain for the next decade.

Critical Mineral Auction Process Explained

The roadshow walked investors through the auction framework. Officials covered the bidding process and mineral potential of each block. Technical sessions explained the e-auction mechanism and tender procedures. The critical mineral auction structure aims to attract serious bidders and speed up allocation.

NMEDT Workshop Supports Exploration

The NMEDT workshop ran alongside the roadshow. It focused on exploration planning, execution and reporting. Sessions covered India’s exploration potential and the National Geoscience Data Repository. The workshop also explained how composite licence holders can claim partial reimbursement of exploration costs. This support model encourages private firms to take on early-stage exploration risk. It lowers the entry barrier for companies new to mineral exploration.

Roadshow Backs India’s Mineral Security Goals

The Patna event fits into a larger national plan. The Centre wants to speed up exploration, widen private investment and secure critical mineral supply chains. This effort supports the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. Mineral security remains central to India’s clean energy and strategic technology goals.
