The Assam power sector is set for a major investment push, with projects worth more than ₹1 lakh crore being lined up. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the projects could add over 10,000 MW of power generation capacity and create more than 30,000 jobs.
The state government is tracking these proposals under Advantage Assam 2.0. It is also working to remove bottlenecks and speed up project implementation.
Assam Power Sector Investment Pipeline Expands
Sarma said the government is monitoring investment proposals individually. The approach aims to ensure faster movement through the administrative process.
The Chief Minister has also reviewed the broader ₹5 lakh crore investment pipeline under Advantage Assam 2.0. Around 75% of the proposals are currently at different stages of firming up.
The government is working to address regulatory and implementation challenges. The focus is on converting investment commitments into projects on the ground.
10,000 MW Power Generation Target
The proposed projects are expected to add more than 10,000 MW of electricity generation capacity. They could also create over 30,000 jobs in the state.
Sarma said the expansion will help Assam move from dependence on electricity imports towards becoming a power-surplus state.
The state could eventually supply electricity to other parts of India. Higher power availability could also support industrialisation and attract large-scale investments.
Power Capacity to Support Industrial Growth
The government sees reliable power supply as a key requirement for Assam’s industrial growth. Additional generation capacity could improve the state’s ability to support new industries and businesses.
The investment pipeline is also expected to create employment and strengthen the state’s economic base.
By closely monitoring projects under Advantage Assam 2.0, the government aims to reduce delays and improve execution.
The planned 10,000 MW expansion could strengthen Assam’s energy security and support its ambition to become a power-surplus economy.
