Indonesia Honours PM Narendra Modi with Prestigious ‘Bintang Adipurna’ Award

While in Jakarta for official business, President Prabowo Subianto bestowed Indonesia’s highest civilian and military honor—the “Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia”—to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. The distinguished honour, which has been bestowed upon the Indian prime minister once again in recognition of his outstanding service, was instituted in 1959.

With this and his ever-increasing collection of over 30 international honours, Prime Minister Modi has become the most decorated Indian leader in recent history. State honours, academic distinctions, and environmental prizes are among the many that have been bestowed by national and international bodies.

Seychelles presented Prime Minister Modi with the highest national accolade for efforts in sustainable development and environmental conservation—the “Guardian of the Blue Horizon”—earlier this year. Nations that are serious about combating climate change and preserving the environment for the next generation were the recipients of the prize, according to the prime minister.

The two leaders met for in-depth bilateral discussions during Modi’s visit with the goal of enhancing the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Security at sea, energy, commerce, vital minerals, the digital economy, regional cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, and defence cooperation were the main points of discussion.

Upon arrival in Jakarta, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted by President Prabowo at the airport and later hosted at the Merdeka Palace, marking an unprecedented ceremonial welcome. With an expression of profound gratitude, the prime minister said that the visit would give new life to the bilateral relations that have been built up since the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was formed in 2018.

During their visit, the two heads of state will pay homage to the common cultural and historical heritage of Indonesia and India by touring Yogyakarta’s Prambanan Temple complex, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. As part of his three-nation tour, Prime Minister Modi will also meet with members of the Indian diaspora before moving on to New Zealand and Australia.
