On Tuesday, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet for high-level bilateral discussions in Jakarta. The leaders are anticipated to rev up the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a number of key areas, including economics and strategy. This meeting is part of the Prime Minister’s inaugural visit to New Zealand, Australia, and Indonesia, which will take place over the course of three nations.
A moving and unusual diplomatic gesture, President Prabowo Subianto personally greeted Prime Minister Modi at the airport upon his arrival in Jakarta on Monday. Prime Minister Modi expressed optimism that the most recent talks would lead to even closer cooperation, noting that the two nations have benefited much from the 2018 upgrade of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
There will likely be a heavy emphasis on defence cooperation, marine security, vital minerals, food security, digital economy projects, and wider strategic cooperation during the bilateral summit. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the bedrock of India-Indonesia relations since 2018, will also be reviewed by the leaders.
During their official meeting, Prime Minister Modi and President Prabowo will also tour Yogyakarta’s famous Prambanan Temple complex, the biggest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Both countries are anticipated to announce the start of repair work at the temple complex during the visit, which will showcase the shared cultural and civilisational legacy of the two nations.
It is the first bilateral visit by Prime Minister Modi since the relationship was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and it is his fourth visit to Indonesia. Before moving on to Australia and New Zealand for more high-level engagements, he is also expected to connect with the Indian diaspora during his stay.
