India–Nordic Summit 2026 Set to Shape Future Global Technology Governance Rules

Topics covered at the third India-Nordic Summit 2026 in Oslo included green innovation, digital infrastructure, and artificial intelligence, highlighting India’s increasing influence in determining global technology governance.

According to the India Narrative study, the summit marked a change in India’s role, moving it from a country that adopts technology policies to one that is starting to make its mark on global digital and AI strategies.

Seeing closer cooperation as advantageous for economic development and geopolitical stability, the Nordic nations framed their engagement with India as a strategic alliance centred on green technology, innovation, and robust supply chains.

According to the report, the Nordic nations and India are seeing each other as strategic partners. The Nordic countries offer knowledge in governance, sustainability, and advanced technology, while India is becoming a major platform for digital innovation.

Developed and emerging economies were encouraged to participate in India’s planned AI governance framework, which was signalled at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.

The paper states that the Oslo summit prioritised cooperation on human-centered and inclusive AI, highlighting the increasing harmony between Nordic technological principles and India’s AI strategy.

According to the research, the AI Impact Declaration spearheaded by India takes a developmental stance, in contrast to the security-focused policy discussions in many Western nations. This stance prioritises human capital development, inclusivity, trustworthy AI, and broader access to AI resources.

It also brought attention to the growing ecosystem of digital public infrastructure in India, which includes systems for digital payments powered by UPI and Aadhaar, as well as open digital platforms that facilitate innovation in both the public and commercial sectors.

More than one billion people are already using these digital systems for things like welfare delivery, financial inclusion, and everyday transactions, and the research says that platforms like MOSIP and digital certification systems are helping to spread them over the world.

According to the research, when India establishes its Digital Personal Data Protection framework and AI rules, the Nordic nations, notably Norway, might offer their knowledge of data protection and privacy standards, which could lead to improved protections.

Meanwhile, Nordic companies are looking to diversify their operations away from China and into manufacturing and research in India in response to supply-chain issues and increasing production costs.

The paper went on to say that working with India provides access to a huge STEM talent pool as well as a dynamic regulatory environment for new technology and data governance.
