During the most recent round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC), which were co-chaired in Paris by Vikram Misri and Martin Briens, the strategic partnership between France and India was further solidified.
Defence, civil nuclear energy, space cooperation, cyber and digital collaboration, artificial intelligence, innovation, cultural engagement, and exchange of views on regional and global developments were among the important topics covered in the talks, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
While in France, Misri met with Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot to discuss current geopolitical issues, including the changing situation in the Middle East, and to assess bilateral collaboration.
While calling for a political end to the war, both groups emphasised the significance of maintaining the United States-Iran ceasefire mechanism. Given the Strait of Hormuz’s importance for global energy and economic flows, restoring freedom of navigation in the waterway also became a top priority.
In line with France’s G7 Presidency, the consultations also brought attention to the fact that India and France work together on a variety of multilateral challenges, such as resolving macroeconomic imbalances and promoting inclusive frameworks for global governance.
During his visit to the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Paris, Misri reinforced cultural diplomacy initiatives by attending an exhibition of contemporary Indian art, in addition to engaging in strategic dialogue.
Misri is expected to continue conversations in Germany as part of a larger diplomatic outreach. This reflects the ongoing high-level meetings between India and important European allies, with the goal of increasing collaboration in vital industries.
