Government Opens Bidding for 10 GWh Grid-Scale ACC Battery Manufacturing Under PLI

The Indian government’s Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has put out a call for international proposals in an effort to choose a company to build a 10 GWh Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) battery factory. Aiming to establish an independent battery manufacturing ecosystem, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for ACC Battery Storage includes the increased capacity set aside for Grid-Scale Stationary Storage (GSSS) applications.

The ministry has announced that a worldwide competitive tender has been used to issue the Request for Proposal (RFP). The bidding process will be carried out online through the Central Public Procurement (CPP) Portal, with a two-stage Quality and Cost Based Selection (QCBS) mechanism applied to guarantee openness and competitiveness.

Starting on July 15, 2026, you will have access to the tender materials. The pre-bid meeting is set to take place on July 29, 2026. The deadline for interested firms to submit bids is October 13, 2026. On October 14, 2026, the technical bids will be opened.

According to the government, the 10 GWh capacity would provide large-scale energy storage options, which will help India’s renewable energy sector, which is expanding at a rapid pace. Improving energy security, decreasing reliance on imported batteries, and fostering a domestic ACC manufacturing business that can compete globally are all goals of the effort.

India plans to build a 50 GWh ACC battery production capacity under the PLI Scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell Battery Storage, which received financial approval from the Union Cabinet in May 2021 and allocated Rs 18,100 crore. Domestic manufacturers have already been allotted 40 GWh capacity, and projects are presently underway to put it into action.

The scheme’s stated goals include easing India’s transition to clean energy, electric mobility, and large-scale renewable power integration by attracting investments from both domestic and foreign companies; and reducing the country’s dependence on imported lithium-ion batteries and critical battery components.

In order to increase energy security, speed up the country’s transition to clean energy, and establish a strong domestic battery sector, India has launched the 10 GWh ACC battery manufacturing tender. This is a crucial step in the country’s attempts to implement the PLI Scheme.
