GAIL Gas Limited Appoints Ashu Shinghal as New CEO

Ashu Shinghal is now leading GAIL Gas Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of GAIL (India) Limited, as its chief executive officer. In his previous position, he oversaw operations at Mahanagar Gas Limited.

Shinghal has an MBA in Operations Management in addition to his Mechanical Engineering degree from the National Institute of Technology Silchar. He started off as a Graduate Engineer Trainee at GAIL in 1991 and worked his way up to the post of Executive Director, where he oversaw sustainability programs, comprehensive quality control, risk management, corporate strategy, and planning. On top of that, he was the chief risk officer for the organization.

Throughout his 35 years of expertise in the hydrocarbon industry, Shinghal has successfully executed numerous large-scale projects, such as pipelines for natural gas, petrochemicals, LNG, and the distribution of city gas. Shinghal oversaw the tripling of revenue and market capitalisation, the attainment of the company’s highest-ever profit after tax, and the recording of robust development in domestic PNG connections and CNG infrastructure during his time at Mahanagar Gas Limited.

Through his subsidiaries and joint ventures, he also pushed for expansion into new markets, including compressed biogas, LNG transportation, and battery manufacture. With extensive experience in stakeholder interaction with think tanks, industry groups, and multilateral organisations, Shinghal has been an integral part of GAIL’s strategic decision-making process.

Mahanagar LNG Private Limited and International Battery Company India Private Limited were both chaired by him, and ONGC Petro Additions Limited and Talcher Fertilisers Limited both had him as a director.
