During a meeting with Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday, leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers requested the Centre to lengthen the PM E-DRIVE plan and update the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Auto plan to accommodate the industry’s changing demands.
At the summit, leaders in the electric mobility ecosystem in India shared their goals for the future, including increasing local production and establishing India as a world leader in electric two-wheeler manufacturing.
In a formal declaration, manufacturers shared their goals of creating electric mobility platforms that can compete on a global scale and emphasised their investments in domestic engineering, product development, and production.
Members of the industry addressed the minister on the changing needs of the sector and emphasised the importance of ongoing policy assistance for Indian manufacturers looking to expand their operations and strengthen their position in both the domestic and international markets.
An important point brought up during the talks was the need to prolong the PM E-DRIVE program, which offers subsidies for electric vehicles and other forms of electric transportation. In order to adapt to the evolving needs of the industry, manufacturers have requested changes to the PLI Auto Scheme.
The Minister of Heavy Industries, Kumaraswamy told the industry, would do all in its power to encourage innovation and manufacturing.
