From June 3 to 5, 2026, during India’s BRICS Presidency, the BRICS Technical Meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group will be held in Puri, Odisha. This event will showcase the state’s increasing international renown for disaster preparedness and resilience management.
Representatives, legislators, and catastrophe management specialists from BRICS and partner countries will gather at the Taj Puri Resort for a three-day technical seminar.
Delegates from several countries are expected to take part in discussions on disaster management, resilience building, and international cooperation, according to the government. The list includes Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the UAE, and China, among others.
A number of factors, including Odisha’s well-known cyclone readiness, community-based early warning systems, and large-scale evacuation plans, contributed to the state’s selection as the host.
The goal of the gathering is to improve coordinated responses to climate change and emergencies, increase cooperation on technology to lessen the impact of disasters, and enhance the flow of information among the participating nations.
According to officials, Odisha can boost its international reputation in resilience and emergency preparedness by holding the conference and showcasing its disaster management capabilities on a global scale.
Member governments and newer partner nations debate policy coordination, technical collaboration, and best practices in disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation in the BRICS DRR Working Group, a specialised forum.
