NLC India Limited (NLCIL) and the Technology Innovation Hub TEXMiN at the Indian Institute of Science (ISM) Dhanbad have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance R&D efforts in essential minerals, in line with the goals of the Indian government on resource security and renewable energy.
In the presence of top officials from both organisations, the agreement was signed on May 26 in Neyveli by I.S. Jasper Rose, Executive Director (Mines & Land) of NLCIL, and Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director and Director of TEXMiN at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
Knowledge sharing, research, and technological advancement in vital mineral exploration, beneficiation, and extraction technologies are the goals of the cooperation.
The National Critical Mineral Mission and India’s overall plan to enhance mineral security for clean energy technologies, sophisticated manufacturing, and strategic industries are both bolstered by this partnership, according to NLCIL.
Using primary and secondary resources, the state-run corporation has been aggressively seeking out strategic and vital mineral exploration opportunities. It has already won two mining blocks at auction that are considered critical. Additional mineral assets in India and abroad are also being evaluated.
NITI Aayog has formed a committee that includes NLCIL to investigate the possibility of recovering strategic and critical minerals from secondary resources like coal, lignite, overburden, and mine tailings. Research on trace minerals and Rare Earth Elements (REEs) has been conducted by the company.
Mineral exploration, beneficiation, and extraction technologies are the primary areas of focus at TEXMiN, an innovation hub for mining and mineral technology at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
The relationship is a reflection of NLCIL’s dedication to sustainable mining methods and innovation-led resource development, according to Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, chairman and managing director of the company.
He stated that, in addition to bolstering India’s indigenous capabilities in key mineral value chains, the partnership is anticipated to expedite technological developments, hence aiding the country’s strategic mineral security and self-reliance objectives.
In a joint statement, the two organisations reaffirmed their commitment to further the goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat by scientific cooperation, environmentally responsible mining practices, and technical innovation.
