BPCL Andhra Pradesh Petrochemical Project Estimated at ₹1.45 Lakh Crore

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) plans to construct a greenfield refinery-cum-petrochemical complex near Ramayapatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh. Estimated at ₹1.45 lakh crore, the facility will span Prakasam and Nellore districts, significantly boosting India’s energy and chemical refining capabilities.

Key Timelines for the BPCL Andhra Pradesh Petrochemical Project

BPCL Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Khanna recently briefed Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on the project’s progress:

  • Environmental Clearance: Expected by late September 2026.
  • Cost Finalization: Engineers India Limited (EIL) will submit its final study report in October 2026.
  • Land Allocation: Authorities have handed over 75% of the required 6,000 acres, with the remainder due by mid-October 2026.
  • Construction Start: Commences immediately after final cost firming.

Capacity and Downstream Petrochemical Park Integration

The integrated refinery will feature a capacity of 9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). Production plans include 5.4 million tonnes of Euro-6 fuels (Motor Spirit, High-Speed Diesel, and Aviation Turbine Fuel) and 3.2 million tonnes of core petrochemical products like HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, polypropylene, and PVC.

To maximize economic impact, the state proposed a joint 1,500-acre downstream industrial park managed by BPCL and APIIC. This integration positions the BPCL Andhra Pradesh Petrochemical Project to supply critical chemical feedstocks—such as ethylene and propylene—for expanding domestic manufacturing demands.
