India and Cyprus Elevate Bilateral Ties to Strategic Partnership: PM Modi

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India and Cyprus had elevated their relations to a strategic partnership. He hailed the visit of Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides as a watershed moment in the two countries’ relationship.

Joined by President Christodoulides at a joint press conference following bilateral talks at Hyderabad House, Prime Minister Modi stated that the enhanced partnership is a reflection of the increasing trust and economic engagement between the two nations.

By way of economic relationship highlight, the prime minister stated that Cypriot investments in India have nearly quadrupled over the last decade and that Cyprus is among the top ten investors in India.

Prime Minister Modi stated that new chances for investment growth between the two countries exist as a result of the ongoing negotiations for an India-EU free trade agreement and wider economic engagement.

One of India’s top ten investment destinations is Cyprus. Cypriot investments in India have more than quadrupled during the past decade. There is now more mutual trust between the two nations. He announced plans to “double this investment once again” over the following five years by capitalising on new prospects.

According to the prime minister, the decision to strengthen ties to a strategic partnership shows that both parties are dedicated to working together more closely in several areas.

Presenting President Christodoulides and his entourage with the highest civilian honour bestowed upon them by the Cypriot leadership, Prime Minister Modi reminisced about his visit to the island in 2025 and expressed gratitude for the cordial reception.

His words evoked a “strong and futuristic” bilateral relationship based on mutual respect for democratic principles and the rule of law.
