Mumbai Airport Shut for 6 Hours on Thursday

In order to do the pre-monsoon maintenance on both runways, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport will temporarily halt all flight operations on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Runways 09/27 and 14/32 will be temporarily closed due to maintenance, making the airport completely inoperable during that time.

Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) states that the drill is a component of their yearly monsoon readiness program, which aims to guarantee operational safety and uninterrupted flight operations during the severe rains season in Mumbai. In order to assist airlines in making advance schedule adjustments and minimising passenger disruptions, airport authorities announced that they began intensive conversations with stakeholders and airlines approximately six months ago.

“Airlines were able to make adjustments to their flight schedules well in advance due to the six-month-ago stakeholder consultation that was conducted as part of CSMIA’s comprehensive monsoon contingency plan,” the airport operator stated. There have been multiple interruptions to airport operations in the past few months. Some sixty-six air traffic movements were cancelled on March 8. This included thirty-two arrivals and thirty-four departs.

There were 107 cancellations on March 3, including 54 arrivals and 53 departures, which had a more significant impact on operations.

Airline schedules were impacted, leading to discomfort for passengers and, in some cases, leaving them stranded at the airport. These disruptions were associated with the current tensions in West Asia.
