The first ‘Deemed VP Rake’ carrying cumin seeds from Gujarat’s Mehsana to Assam’s Azara has run smoothly, bolstering Western Railway’s freight transportation network and establishing a new standard for organised rail-based spice logistics.
Over the course of around 2,477 miles, the 30-wagon rake conveyed cumin seeds weighing about 420 tonnes, contained in about 13,800 bags. More than Rs 25.28 lakh in goods income was earned by the operation.
In addition to promoting railways as an economical, dependable, and ecologically friendly means of transporting goods, officials stated that the project will enhance connectivity between the spice business in Gujarat and markets in Northeast India.
Faster logistics and more efficient supply chain movement are two ways in which traders and exporters stand to gain from the change. The effective operation showcases the robust freight-handling skills and customer-focused logistics services of Ahmedabad Division, according to Western Railway.
