Eco-Friendly Waste Management Boosts Kedarnath Yatra Infrastructure

To guarantee a sustainable pilgrimage experience, the Rudraprayag district administration has deployed advanced waste management systems and increased eco-friendly and cleaning efforts along the Kedarnath Dham Yatra route.

The yatra’s district magistrate, Vishal Mishra, has asked pilgrims to help keep the area clean and to refrain from throwing trash. The Kedarnath Nagar Panchayat has been using a baling machine to sort their dry waste more effectively. This makes transportation and recycling much easier by compressing the garbage into little bales.

The shrine also features a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) that collects, sorts, and recycles trash in an organised fashion. The estimated revenue is from 15,000 to 20,000 rupees, and 500 kilograms of dry garbage has already been treated.

In an effort to keep the area clean and verdant despite the increasing number of visitors, the management has improved the sanitation facilities along the trekking route and at the temple compund.

More than 6.66 million devotees have set foot on the sacred Char Dham Yatra grounds thus far this year. Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath are four venerated shrines in the Garhwal Himalayas that make up the sacred circuit.

In order to preserve the delicate Himalayan ecosystem for future generations, officials have stated that this program is part of a larger effort to strike a balance between religious tourism and environmental sustainability.
