SECL Director Technical: Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra Takes Charge

SECL Director Technical Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra has taken charge as Director (Technical) – Operations at South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). He will also hold the additional charge of Director (Technical) – Project & Planning.

After assuming charge, Mohapatra held a review meeting with Heads of Departments and Area General Managers. The meeting focused on key operational priorities and ongoing activities across SECL.

SECL Director Technical Takes Charge

Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra has assumed charge as Director (Technical) – Operations at SECL. He will also oversee Project & Planning as an additional responsibility.

SECL officers, Heads of Departments and employees congratulated Mohapatra on taking charge. He subsequently reviewed operational priorities with HODs and Area General Managers.

The discussions covered ongoing activities and key operational requirements across the company.

Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra Brings Mining Experience

Mohapatra brings more than three decades of experience in the mining sector. Before taking charge as SECL Director (Technical), he served as General Manager of the Jhanjra Area at Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL).

His experience covers mining operations, project management and strategic leadership. He has handled both underground and opencast mining operations during his career.

Mohapatra is an alumnus of IIT-BHU. He holds a degree in Mining Engineering, which he completed in 1990, and an MBA in Human Resource Management. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India).

Career at SECL and Coal India

Mohapatra began his career at Surakachhar Colliery in SECL’s Korba Area. He later held several operational and management positions.

His career includes roles such as Colliery Manager, Project Officer, Additional General Manager and General Manager.

He has worked on major underground and opencast mining operations under Coal India. His responsibilities have included production enhancement, adoption of modern mining technologies and project execution.

He has also handled land and rehabilitation issues and worked with local communities on mining-related matters.

International Exposure in Coal Mining

Mohapatra has represented the Indian coal sector at international forums. His engagements include the African Mining Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa, and industrial cooperation discussions in the Czech Republic.

His technical and operational experience is expected to support SECL’s mining operations and project activities in his new role.
