With the nationwide implementation of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025, announced by the Centre, rural households will be guaranteed 125 days of paid employment each year beginning on July 1, 2026.
Within a certain time limit, the new system guarantees employment to any rural household with adults prepared to do unskilled physical labour. Beneficiaries will be eligible for an unemployment payment as per the provisions of the Act in the event that they are unable to get employment.
Wages will be deposited into bank or post office accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) on a weekly basis or within fifteen days after the muster roll is closed. Compensation will be imposed in the event of payment delays.
For the fiscal year 2026–27, the government has set aside ₹95,692.31 crore, which is the maximum amount ever anticipated for a program that hires people from rural areas. The overall expenditure is anticipated to surpass ₹1.51 lakh crore, including contributions from the state.
Improved livelihood security, higher rural incomes, and faster infrastructure development at the village level are the goals of the plan.
Projects that are now underway will continue without interruption until the transition date, when the new law will take the place of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
