Union Cabinet Greenlights ₹23,437 Crore Rail Projects in 6 States

The Indian Railways network will be extended by 901 km across various states thanks to three railway projects valued at ₹23,437 crore, which have been authorised by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) headed by Narendra Modi.

Among the authorised projects are the third and fourth line extensions, which are scheduled to be completed by 2030–31: Nagda–Mathura, Guntakal–Wadi, and Burhwal–Sitapur. An estimated 83 lakh people will reap the benefits of improved connection in 4,161 villages thanks to these multi-tracking projects.

Access to popular tourist spots including Vrindavan, Keoladeo National Park, Ranthambore National Park, and Mahakaleshwar Temple will all be enhanced as a result of these developments.

Coal, food grains, cement, petroleum products, iron and steel, fertilisers and other commodities pass through these routes, which are strategically vital for freight movement. A 60 million tonne increase in annual goods load is anticipated as a result of the capacity enhancement.

The initiatives are part of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan and have three main goals: to alleviate train congestion, streamline operations, and promote multimodal connectivity.

Supporting India’s larger sustainability objectives, the expansion is anticipated to decrease logistics costs, decrease oil imports by 37 crore litres, and minimise carbon emissions by 185 crore kg, which is the same as planting seven crore trees.

Taken together, the initiatives will improve operational efficiency, service dependability, and the smooth circulation of products and passengers along important economic corridors.
