Wednesday marked the beginning of Vietnamese President To Lam’s first state visit to India since taking office, and he was ceremoniously welcomed at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Traditional performances and youngsters waving Vietnamese and Indian flags enhanced the reception, which was attended by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. To Lam was received by state officials at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bihar, where he prayed before attending formal engagements in New Delhi.
Ajit Doval, the national security advisor, met with the president of Vietnam for exploratory talks, with the goal of deepening the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The visit coincides with the tenth anniversary of the enhanced strategic ties between Vietnam and India, with the goal of further collaboration in trade, defence, and regional security on the part of both countries.
Among other high-level meetings, President To Lam is expected to have extensive discussions with Prime Minister Modi and meet with President Murmu during his trip until May 7.
In Mumbai, he will meet with corporate executives, tour the National Stock Exchange, and participate in a business roundtable, all of which are part of his schedule.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit would hopefully provide bilateral ties a much-needed boost and pave the way for new forms of cooperation.
