Tata Power Renewables has crossed the 7 GW operational capacity milestone after commissioning a 100 MW Group Captive Solar Project in Tamil Nadu. The project, known as TNGC-2, is located at Vellalankottai and Nalandhula villages in Kayathar. The commissioning strengthens the company’s position in India’s renewable energy sector.
Tata Power Renewables Expands Clean Energy Capacity
The latest project takes Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited’s utility portfolio to 12.3 GW and its operational capacity beyond 7 GW. The company’s operational portfolio now includes more than 5.7 GW of solar capacity and 1.3 GW of wind energy capacity.
The company also has another 5.3 GW of renewable energy projects under development. This pipeline includes 2.2 GW of solar and 3.1 GW of wind capacity. These projects are planned for phased commissioning over the next six to 24 months.
Tata Power Renewables Commissions 100 MW Solar Project
The 100 MW solar project will supply renewable power to three Tata Group companies. TP Solar Limited will receive 40.625 MW, while Tata Electronics Private Limited will receive 53.125 MW. Tata Realty and Infrastructure Limited will receive the remaining 6.25 MW.
The project is designed to generate around 240.63 million units of clean electricity every year. It is also expected to offset approximately 1.5 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
Advanced Solar Technology Deployed in Tamil Nadu
The project features the first deployment of Flexible Terrain Compatible (FTC) single-axis tracker technology for a Tata project in India. The technology is designed to support efficient solar generation across varying terrain conditions.
The solar project uses 261,660 mono PERC bifacial solar modules. The equipment is designed to maximise energy generation while improving operational efficiency.
Power Evacuation Supports Reliable Delivery
Electricity generated by the project will be transmitted through the Kayathar 400 kV Grid Substation. The power evacuation system will support reliable transmission and efficient delivery of renewable electricity to the beneficiary companies.
The project reflects Tata Power Renewables’ focus on engineering capabilities, construction quality and efficient execution of large-scale renewable energy projects.
Tata Power Renewables Builds Renewable Energy Pipeline
Beyond utility-scale solar and wind assets, the company has experience across several renewable energy segments. Its portfolio includes utility-scale solar projects, floating solar installations and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
The commissioning of the Tamil Nadu project marks another step in the company’s renewable energy expansion. With more than 7 GW of operational capacity and a further 5.3 GW under development, Tata Power Renewables continues to expand its role in India’s clean energy transition.
