South Korean President Lee Jae-myung began a three-day state visit to New Delhi on Sunday to strengthen the India–South Korea Special Strategic Partnership and broaden cooperation across key areas.
Accompanied by First Lady Kim Hea Kyung, the visiting leader was received at the airport by Minister of State for External Affairs Harsh Malhotra. This marks President Lee’s first official visit to India since assuming office.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit is a significant step in advancing bilateral ties anchored in shared democratic values and long-standing civilisational connections.
President Lee is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where both sides are expected to announce steps to enhance collaboration in shipbuilding, trade and investment, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and other emerging technologies. The talks aim to establish joint working groups and new investment agreements, while regional and global issues of mutual interest will also form a key part of the dialogue.
As part of the official engagements, Prime Minister Modi will host a luncheon in honour of the visiting leader, while President Droupadi Murmu will host a state banquet at Rashtrapati Bhavan following the bilateral talks.
During his visit, President Lee is also expected to meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat.
The visit comes amid continued high-level diplomatic engagement between the two countries, including recent interactions on the sidelines of global forums such as the G20 and G7 summits.
