Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong is visiting India from October 13 to 15, 2026, to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation and advance business ties. His itinerary includes engagements in New Delhi and Chennai, with discussions expected to cover investment, manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing.
Singapore Deputy PM to Meet Indian Officials and Business Leaders
Gan will be in New Delhi on October 13 and 14 to participate in the 8th Bloomberg New Economy Forum, where he will speak on a panel discussing how countries are pursuing greater self-sufficiency. As a member of the forum’s advisory board, he will also meet senior Indian government officials and business leaders on the sidelines.
On October 15, Gan will travel to Chennai for engagements with Indian and Singaporean business leaders. He will be accompanied by officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, the Economic Development Board and Enterprise Singapore.
Chennai Offers Scope for Manufacturing and Investment Cooperation
Tamil Nadu is an important economic partner for Singapore, supported by its industrial base and manufacturing capabilities. Singapore companies operate in several sectors across the state, including manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy, real estate and digital services.
During his Chennai visit, Gan will also meet ITE Education Services, which is implementing the National Centre of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing. The initiative is a bilateral project under the Singapore Cooperation Programme.
The engagement is expected to provide an opportunity to explore cooperation in advanced manufacturing and strengthen business links between the two countries.
Visit Builds on Recent India-Singapore Engagement
Gan’s visit follows Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s recent three-day official trip to Singapore. During her visit, she met Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to discuss expanding economic, financial, investment and business cooperation.
Sitharaman highlighted projects from the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund’s official pipeline and India’s economic fundamentals to encourage greater investment from Singapore-based investors. Wong welcomed the continued growth in bilateral cooperation and expressed optimism about India’s economic prospects.
The two sides also reviewed progress on the outcomes of the 4th India–Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR). Discussions covered capital markets, payments connectivity, digitalisation, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
They also explored the tokenisation of financial assets and central bank digital currencies, with Singapore expressing interest in sharing its experience in asset tokenisation. The discussions included regional and global developments and opportunities to strengthen India–ASEAN cooperation ahead of Singapore’s ASEAN chairmanship in 2027.
Gan’s visit adds to these ongoing engagements and provides another opportunity to advance investment, technology partnerships and industrial collaboration.
