The long-standing partnership between the two nations will be strengthened during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three-day State Visit, which began on Saturday. During his visit, the Prime Minister will be participating as a Guest of Honour at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Seychelles’ National Day.
Seychelles President Patrick Herminie personally met Prime Minister Modi and senior ministers and top government officials at the airport as a special diplomatic gesture. A large contingent of Indian expats also showed up to greet the guests, a reflection of the strong cultural links between the two nations.
Prime Minister Modi, speaking shortly after touching down, thanked the host nation for its gracious reception and reiterated India’s resolve to forge closer ties with the United States.
He went on to say that Seychelles is an important maritime ally and reliable friend in the Indian Ocean, and that he was excited to have fruitful talks with the country in the hopes of increasing their collaboration.
The Prime Minister of India made a point of noting, before leaving India, that the diplomatic relations between his country and the Seychelles will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2026. These connections have been based on friendship, democracy, diversity, and mutual trust.
President Patrick Herminie, who visited India earlier this year, will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bilateral talks during their visit. Enhancing marine security, supporting sustainable development, extending collaboration under Vision MAHASAGAR, and furthering the shared interests of the Global South are all on the agenda.
It is also on the agenda for the prime minister to deliver a speech to the Seychelles National Assembly, making history as the first prime minister from India to do so. Additionally, he will engage with the Indian community, recognising their role as a conduit between the two nations.
With collaboration extending to maritime security, capacity building, infrastructure development, military, healthcare, education, and climate resilience, India regards Seychelles as one of its most significant partners in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
The prime minister is optimistic that the visit would strengthen bilateral relations and further their common goal of an Indo-Pacific region that is safe, peaceful, and wealthy.
