PMAY-G: Centre Allocates Rs 10,021 Crore to 12 States for Affordable Rural Housing

The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) accelerated efforts to achieve the ‘Housing for All’ aim by March 2029, as the Centre released a “mother sanction” of Rs 10,021.42 crore to 12 states on Thursday.

All of these states: Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh were notified of the sanction over video conference.

With 3.91 crore dwellings authorised out of a goal of 4.95 crore and over 3.05 crore homes now finished, the government has achieved tremendous progress under PMAY-G, according to Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The latest release brings the total sanctioned support to over Rs 21,000 crore, according to Rohit Kansal, Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development. This follows an earlier sanction of Rs 11,121 crore for FY27.

Implementation is scheduled through tight collaboration between the federal government and the states, as pointed out by Kansal. The housing target for FY27 is three times greater than last year.

Emphasising that PMAY-G integrates roads, power, drinking water, LPG connections, and sanitation services, Chouhan stated that the government’s mission is to abolish kutcha dwelling among impoverished families.

Helplines, methods for resolving grievances, rainwater harvesting, livelihood initiatives for self-help groups, and mason training programs are among of the state-led innovations that the minister mentioned as having accelerated implementation.

As a means of bolstering financial and social stability, the plan continues to prioritise women-centric ownership, with over 75% of sanctioned residences being registered in women’s names or under joint ownership.

Chouhan emphasised the need of states taking action to help low-income households with land availability issues, speeding up approvals that are still pending, and making sure monies are used promptly.

Additionally, he urged states that were behind schedule in 2024–25 and 2025–26 to finish by June 30, 2026.

The minister also urged those who receive PMAY-G funds to participate in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative and plant a tree on June 5, World Environment Day.
