Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh Limited, a new cooperative aimed at empowering rural women entrepreneurs in Bihar.
The initiative, jointly funded by the Bihar and Central governments, will provide affordable financial services to women associated with the Jeevika program. A significant aspect of the launch involves transferring Rs 105 crore to the institution’s bank account. This cooperative seeks to address the dependency of Jeevika women on microfinance institutions with high-interest rates by offering larger loans at lower rates.
The platform will operate digitally, with community cadres equipped with tablets to assist Jeevika members (“Didis”) in accessing financial services. This initiative is projected to enhance financial inclusion, empower rural women, and foster community-led entrepreneurship, with an estimated 20 lakh women expected to view the inauguration.
The Jeevika Nidhi Federation is viewed as a crucial development for building a self-reliant rural economy in Bihar, centered on women’s empowerment and cooperative principles.
