MoD Awards ₹449 Crore Indigenous GNSS Jammer Deal to Strengthen Navy’s Maritime Defence Capabilities

The Indian Navy will soon have twenty ECGNSS jammers, purchased through a Rs 449 crore deal between the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Accord Software and Systems Private Limited (ASSPL) of Bengaluru. This will be a huge improvement to India’s maritime defence capabilities.

This agreement, which was signed under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, showcases the government’s ongoing commitment to indigenous military production. It was seen by military Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

The Ministry of Defence has announced that at least 75% of the advanced ECGNSS jammers will be made in India, a move that will further increase the country’s independence in vital defence technology.

These complex systems can spoof signals and deceive jamming operations, and they can also hinder the ability of enemy GNSS receivers to acquire and track satellite signals. Armed with these capabilities, Indian navy platforms will be better able to operate safely in complicated and hostile maritime settings and fight modern electronic warfare threats.

Indian Navy warships would be much better able to navigate and carry out missions in regions with diverse threats if the upgraded equipment were installed, according to officials.

An important step toward enhancing India’s framework for maritime security, according to the Defence Ministry, was the signing of the deal. Promoting domestic research, development, and production of superior military equipment further highlighted the government’s commitment to Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the Make in India project.

Over the last ten years, India’s military manufacturing sector has grown at an astounding rate. The country’s rising prominence in the global defence market is seen in the 174 percent increase in defence output, reaching 1.54 lakh crore, and the 34-fold expansion in defence exports, reaching 23,622 crore.

Collaborative manufacturing initiatives between government agencies and private industry have been successful, with the private sector emerging as a major contributor to this transition and contributing for approximately Rs 15,000 crore of total defence exports.

During his speech at the North Tech Symposium 2026 in Prayagraj, Dr. Jitendra Singh, India’s Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, emphasised that the country is currently in a new stage of defence modernisation, driven by improvements in technology, creativity, and private sector involvement.

Instead of relying solely on conventional military might, he said, future conflicts would be won or lost by innovative technological solutions, AI, quantum computing, automated systems, and real-time data networks.

Essential components of modern defence preparation include space technology, atomic energy, artificial intelligence, and quantum-secure communications; the minister also highlighted India’s increasing strengths in these crucial fields.

The government’s commitment to bolstering national security is evident in the Union Budget 2026-27, which has set aside Rs 6.81 lakh crore for defence, marking a 9.5% rise from the previous fiscal year.

India is bolstering its position as a global defence manufacturing powerhouse and speeding up its defence modernisation efforts with the acquisition of domestic ECGNSS jammers. This will help reduce dependence on foreign military equipment.

Another major step forward in India’s defence indigenisation drive has been the Rs 449 crore ECGNSS jammer procurement. The Indian government is furthering its goals of a technologically empowered and internationally competitive defence sector, bolstering maritime security, and encouraging self-reliance through the acquisition of cutting-edge electronic warfare systems for the Indian Navy.
