Ministry of Jal Shakti Invites Applications for 7th National Water Awards 2026

The 7th National Water Awards (NWA) 2026 have been formally launched by the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. This shows that the government is still committed to encouraging conservation and sustainable water management nationwide. All qualified applicants are need to submit their entries online before August 28, 2026, as notified on the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal.

For organisations and government agencies in India that have gone above and beyond in promoting water efficiency, public engagement, and water conservation, the National Water Awards have become a highly esteemed honour. “Jal Samridh Bharat” is the goal of the Indian government, and this program is an effort to help achieve that goal by promoting creative approaches to water security.

Best State, Best District, Best Urban Local Body, Best Industry for CSR Initiative in the Water Sector, and Best Implemented Project in the Water Sector are the five main categories that will be recognised at this year’s awards. Specialised assessment systems will also acknowledge outstanding performance in Water Resource Management (WRM), Jal Sanchay Jal Bhagidari (JSJB), and Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

This year’s 7th Annual National Water Awards are particularly noteworthy due to the ‘Dam Safety’ topic that will be used to recognise the Best Implemented Project in the Water Sector. To recognise the increasing significance of resilient water infrastructure, project implementing authorities will compete for First, Second, and Third Awards based on their demonstration of competence in dam safety and infrastructure management.

According to the Ministry, a Screening Committee will review all applications before a Department-constituted Jury Committee evaluates them. During a formal national ceremony, the President or Vice President of India is likely to deliver the awards, and the Minister of Jal Shakti will approve the final list of awardees.

Launched in 2018, the National Water Awards have been instrumental in acknowledging outstanding achievements by many sectors, including governments, institutions, and businesses. They also serve as a catalyst for stakeholders to embrace creative, community-driven, and environmentally friendly approaches to water management. The national movement in India towards integrated resource management and responsible water conservation has been bolstered by these awards.
