After briefly disrupting government attention, Meta reinstated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Facebook video after admitting that it was removed in error. The information has been restored after the social media business acknowledged that it was wrongly removed. Reportedly, the affair caused the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to call a meeting of the worldwide executives of Instagram and Meta to demand an explanation.
In an address to Generation Z, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the issue of test paper leaks in a video that was broadcast on July 23. The Prime Minister mentioned that the next Union Cabinet meeting will be discussing more stringent measures to prevent paper leaks in his address. The video garnered millions of views on Facebook before it was momentarily banned.
At first, Facebook reportedly blocked the video in response to what seemed like a court order. Meta later explained that the removal had been an accident and not the consequence of a conscious choice by moderation. As soon as the error was discovered, the content was promptly restored by the company.
Social media platforms must provide correct content filtering in all cases, but especially when handling official government communications, as this instance has shown once again. Additionally, it emphasises the government’s requirement that online platforms handle content released by constitutional agencies with transparency and responsibility.
A story surfaced earlier this month stating that Prime Minister Modi’s Instagram account gained an additional one million followers in a single night, bringing his total following to around 101 million. Because to his extensive use of social media and other digital platforms to communicate with the public, the prime minister has maintained his position as the most followed political leader in the world.
