India-South Korea Energy Cooperation Expands

India and South Korea are exploring India-South Korea Energy Cooperation in nuclear energy, green hydrogen, renewable energy and environmental protection. The discussions reflect both countries’ focus on energy transition and sustainability, alongside efforts to strengthen their broader bilateral relationship.

Indian Ambassador to South Korea Gourangalal Das met Kim Jung-ho, Chairman of the Environment, Climate, Energy and Labour Committee of South Korea’s National Assembly, to discuss potential areas of cooperation in environmental protection and energy transition. The Indian Embassy in Seoul shared details of the meeting in a post on X on Thursday.

India-South Korea Energy Cooperation Gains Momentum Through Parliamentary Engagement

The meeting follows a series of engagements between Ambassador Das and South Korean lawmakers to strengthen India-Republic of Korea (ROK) relations. On September 15, Das met members of the ROK-India Parliamentary Friendship Group at the National Assembly. The discussions focused on expanding parliamentary engagement and strengthening cultural and people-to-people ties.

The delegation included Chairperson Yun Ho-jung, Vice Chairpersons Moon Jeong-bog and Yoon Young-seok, and members Kim Young-jin and Kim Jung-ho.

Earlier Talks Covered Clean Energy and Economic Relations

On September 3, Ambassador Das met Kim Seong-won, Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Trade, Industry, Energy, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Startups Committee. Their discussions covered economic and commercial relations, supply chain cooperation, clean energy, and opportunities to promote SMEs and startups in both countries.

These engagements highlight the range of issues on the bilateral agenda, from energy and environmental sustainability to trade, supply chains and parliamentary cooperation.

Expanding Cooperation on Energy Transition and Sustainability

The latest meeting provides another platform for India and South Korea to explore collaboration in nuclear energy, green hydrogen and renewable energy. Cooperation in these areas could support their respective energy-transition priorities while creating opportunities for further engagement on environmental protection and sustainable development.

The discussions also form part of wider efforts to deepen bilateral ties through parliamentary exchanges, economic engagement and people-to-people connections.
