The ACC approved the appointment following a proposal from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Kharwal will hold the additional charge for the specified period.

The appointment provides interim leadership for IICCL until a regular MD & CEO is appointed.

Neeraj Kharwal is a 2007-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Uttarakhand cadre.

He has been serving as Managing Director at the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), New Delhi, since 1 November 2025. His current position is at the Joint Secretary level.

The appointment adds to his current responsibilities at ITPO and places his administrative experience in the convention and exhibition sector.
