AI startup Sarvam and IBM have announced their partnership to promote the growth and implementation of AI technologies in India that are owned by the country. In this partnership, IBM and Sarvam will test out new technologies and solutions with the goal of meeting the needs of various Indian government agencies, nonprofits, and businesses subject to regulations.
Using innovation pilots, solution accelerators, technical advisory, and knowledge-sharing activities, the firms claim this effort will speed up the adoption of trusted, governed, and sovereign AI capabilities in public and private ecosystems.
The integration of Sarvam’s Sovereign AI stack—which comprises reasoning models and India-first language and speech AI trained from scratch in India—with IBM Sovereign Core—AI-ready sovereign-by-design software from IBM—allows full control over data, operations, and governance. The public sector and regulated firms will be the target market for the integrated offering.
Use cases like as administrative workflows, document processing, citizen services, and grievance redressal will be powered by full stack sovereign AI, according to IBM and Sarvam.
There will be a joint incubation and demonstration hub at the IBM GovTech AI Innovation Centre in Lucknow for government departments, public sector organisations, businesses, and industry stakeholders to discuss the practical applications of sovereign AI and work through the technical, operational, and governance requirements of bringing AI from pilots to production.
“Sovereign AI is not simply about where AI runs,” stated Sriram Raghavan, General Manager of IBM Software, India and Software Innovation Lab. The focus is on empowering businesses to manage, implement, and run AI systems.
