In an effort to fortify fuel infrastructure and guarantee supply continuity, the government said on Wednesday that 41 biogas cylinder filling and storage plants have been approved, with 14 facilities already having licenses issued to them.
Between 25 March and 21 April, 467 applications for compressed biogas (CBG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) dispensing stations were prioritised for processing by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO). There were 157 that got final permits and 38 that got construction prior permissions.
Efforts are being made by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to ensure that fuel is available continuously and to speed up the development of necessary infrastructure in light of the persistent global uncertainty.
For last-mile distribution, PESO has temporarily relaxed storage requirements for Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO), and to protect domestic supplies, they have banned exports of ammonium nitrate. Other safety-focused actions include these measures.
Supporting decentralised distribution systems, guidelines have been issued to promote fuel flexibility by allowing LNG to be filled in cryogenic cylinders. In addition, in order to speed up the increase of capacity, permissions for compressed natural gas stations and decompression units are now required within a 10-day period.
To alleviate supply bottlenecks, operational steps include allowing LPG dumping at Porbandar jetty and expediting the installation of new stations by six months by exempting CNG/CBG compressors from approval requirements.
In addition, the DPIIT is taking further steps to stabilise supply chains, promote manufacturing activity, and guarantee industrial continuity in the face of changing geopolitical conditions.
The government has stated that these programs aim to strengthen the energy ecosystem as a whole, making sure that fuels and important inputs are always available and removing operational obstacles that businesses encounter.
