Full commissioning of the 1,980 MW power plant was marked by the announcement by state-owned NLC India Limited, which signifies the beginning of commercial operations of the third 660 MW unit of the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project in Uttar Pradesh. The joint venture between NLC India and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited, Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited, has obtained the Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) for Unit-3 of the project, which will be effective as of 00:00 hours on June 13, 2026, according to a regulatory filing.
A partnership between NLC India (with 51% ownership) and UPRVUNL (with 49% ownership) forms NUPPL.
The Ghatampur Thermal Power Station, which originally had three units of 660 MW each, is now completely operational thanks to the final unit’s declaration of commercial operations.
In addition to helping to satisfy the country’s increasing energy demand, the corporation claimed that this milestone will greatly improve the accessibility of dependable power supply in Uttar Pradesh. With the third unit being operational, the NLC India Group’s total installed power generation capacity has jumped from 7,745 MW to 8,405 MW, solidifying its position as a leading player in India’s power sector.
To help meet the increasing demand for electricity in Uttar Pradesh and ensure a steady supply of power, several large thermal power projects have been constructed, including the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project.
