In an effort to enhance railway administration in Andhra Pradesh, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the South Coastal Railway Zone will be created and announced by the government, beginning June 1.
To improve connection between ports, tourist hubs, and big cities, the state has been allocated a record-breaking Rs 10,134 crore for rail projects, with another 1.06 lakh crore in the works.
This is a significant rise from the previous years’ allocation of Rs 886 crore for the combined Andhra Pradesh-Telangana region. The following infrastructure milestones have been reached: 1,759 km of track has been finished and 3,300 km is still being developed; 832 flyovers and underpasses have been commissioned and 299 are in the building phase. In addition to 74 stations that are currently undergoing renovation, the state has fully electrified its railways.
According to the minister, the East Coast Railway Corridor is undergoing an upgrade to a four-line network, which will allow for up to 500 additional trains and double capacity. This improvement is part of a larger plan for a high-speed southern corridor network. At present, 16 Vande Bharat and 22 Amrit Bharat train services cover Andhra Pradesh, making travel more efficient overall.
