At Sunday’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 26), Apple announced Siri AI, a revamped version of its voice assistant that the firm claims is more intelligent, knowledgeable, and powerful. The unveiling was part of Apple’s next generation of Apple Intelligence.
The updates, which cover iOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27, aim to make Apple products more responsive and user-friendly by introducing performance optimisations, design polish, and new tools. According to Apple, a revolutionary new architecture that prioritises customer privacy is the bedrock of the platform-wide improvements.
In a statement made by Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, the company acknowledged that its products are deeply ingrained in people’s lives and promised even more user empowerment with the introduction of new capabilities this year. “We’re introducing Siri AI, a Siri that is profoundly more intelligent, knowledgeable, and capable; expanding child safety features with intuitive new tools for families; and making our software platforms faster, more reliable, and more delightful than ever before. Across all of our platforms, we’re delivering the next generation of Apple Intelligence.”
An essential part of the update is Siri’s AI. It has the ability to understand the user’s screen, search across apps based on personal context, and retrieve up-to-date information from the web to provide relevant replies. The assistant is also made to be more system-agnostic, so it can help with regular things while still protecting users’ privacy.
Behind the scenes, Apple Intelligence powers new features in apps all around the ecosystem, not just Siri. Improved photo editing in Photos, faster multi-tab browsing in Safari, new artistic possibilities in Image Playground, and better messaging and email in Messages and Mail are all on the way. Apple has stated that the goal is to facilitate more expressive and customised experiences while simultaneously reducing friction in routine activities.
In terms of kid protection tools, parents receive a substantial upgrade. In a statement, the business highlighted the new capabilities that allow parents to easily monitor their children’s access to content, communication, and app usage. Families can enable system-wide age-appropriate protections by creating a kid account. With Setup Assistant, parents can select which apps are available at setup and continue to have control over any additional apps that are introduced later. In order to prevent the sharing of explicit or violent content, communication safety solutions can automatically intervene and need clearance for every new contact.
A new feature called a dynamic app grid is available on Apple Watch with watchOS 27, which allows users to quickly access five apps that are suggested by Siri. Discover My now unifies Find Devices, Find Items, and Find People, and a new touch gesture allows users to access a Smart Stack widget.
Starting today, you may test out the new capabilities on developer.apple.com, which is part of the Apple Developer Programme. The Apple Beta Software Programme is planning to release a public beta next month.
Aiming to give more contextual smarts while keeping day-to-day experiences familiar across the company’s platforms, Apple’s WWDC 26 announcements include privacy-focused underpinnings, greater parental controls, and system-wide intelligence advancements.
