Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given its approval to a ₹7,597.16 crore investment to widen important sections of National Highways 63 and 563 in Telangana.
Under the Build-Operate-Transfer (TOll) model, the project encompasses the Armoor-Jagtial-Mancherial part of NH-63, while the Jagtial-Karimnagar stretch of NH-563 is covered under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). A total of 190.76 km are covered by the three work packages.
Severe traffic congestion in Telangana’s main urban and semi-urban centers is the target of the highway project. There are bottlenecks along the NH-63 corridor in places like Anksapoor, Korutla, Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Lakshettipet, and Mancherial due to increasing traffic and intense development in the districts of Nizamabad, Jagtial, and Mancherial.
Similarly, through densely populated districts like Jagtial, Potharam, Gangadhara, and Karimnagar, the portion of NH-563 that connects the two cities is severely congested.
The authorised proposal is for widening both arteries to four lanes, constructing bypasses around heavily populated regions, and instituting open tolling systems. The roadways are being redesigned to accommodate speeds of up to 100 km/h, which will enhance travel efficiency, safety, and traffic flow.
In addition to facilitating regional travel and economic development, the project is anticipated to greatly improve connection among the districts of Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial, and Karimnagar.
After it’s finished, the trip from Armoor to Mancherial should take around 90 minutes less, while the one from Jagtial to Karimnagar should take about 45 minutes less.
By facilitating speedier and more efficient traffic, the government claims that the upgraded highway infrastructure will decrease fuel consumption, operating expenses of vehicles, and carbon emissions.
In addition to improving transportation, the project is anticipated to provide a large number of job openings. In the course of its construction, it is anticipated to generate around 34.43 lakh man-days of direct employment and an extra 42.70 lakh man-days of indirect employment.
In keeping with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, the redeveloped corridors will improve supply chain efficiency and regional integration by increasing connectivity to ten logistical nodes, seven nodes for social infrastructure, and five nodes for economic activity.
In addition to bolstering industrial growth, trade expansion, and long-term socio-economic development across Telangana, the project is expected to positively impact India’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI), according to the government.
